ProceduresWelcome to English Language Arts. I am excited to have you in my class and am passionate about facilitating learning for each of you. Below are some of the daily procedures we will follow. I’ve written each of these out for you to help class run smoothly and to ensure that learning will occur each day. I will outline further behavior expectations in class.

The #1 rule is RESPECT. Respect for yourself, respect for your peers, respect for your teacher, and respect for the classroom and all materials. If you follow the basic rule of respect, class will run smoothly and everyone will be able to learn each day. The #2 rule is to be RESPONSIBLE for your own actions. # 3 is be READY to learn. Consequences for disrespect will be outlined in class. (PBIS)

ClassroomHow to enter the classroom
Please enter quietly, and move immediately to your assigned seat. Take out your book for FVR (Free Voluntary Reading). You will do this everyday and are expected to bring something to read daily. There will also be a Word Within the Word Activity to be completed in 5 minutes. What should I bring to class every day?
|
What if?...you have a question?
Simply raise your hand and respectfully wait for me to call on you or come to your desk/table. ...you need to leave the classroom?
Sign out, go, return, and sign in. You do not need to ask me for permission for the bathroom. Only one person may be out of the room at a time. ...there is an emergency signal? If an emergency signal alert goes off during class, please line up at the door silently and walk to the designated space. There is to be no talking inside or outside during this type of activity. Please walk through the hallway single file, silently. When we return to class, please resume activity in an efficient manner. ...your pencil breaks? This is a “nearly” paperless classroom but there will be times when you will handwrite. I recommend bringing a small sharpener to class or using a pen or mechanical pencil. ...I want your attention When I want your undivided attention you will see me with my hand up and I will say, “Give me five”. Or I may tap a bell or ring my chimes because some of you will not be able to see my hand while you are in a group. When you see my hand, hear a bell or chime, the procedure is as follows:
...you have been absent
If you are absent, you are expected to self- advocate. You must come to class before school on the day of your return and find out what work was missed. The Student Scribe page of my website should keep you up to date and can be checked from home. Class time will not be used to discuss make up work. It is your responsibility to make sure you get the work needed. I will not track you down in order to remind you of your missing work. You receive one day grace for each day absent. |
How TosTable Check!
This means I give you a few minutes to collaborate at your table. Turn to Talk This means to turn to a neighbor next to you and collaborate. Find and Turn in Homework All assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. It is your choice as to whether or not you use the assignment notebook. Turn in assignments
Most assignments will be handed in digitally via Google Docs. The due date is the beginning of class on that date. You will label all work like this: 224 name of assignment- first name last initial. For example: 224 procedure notes Kayleeo Include a Heading All work must have your name, title of the assignment, and the date of submission in the upper left hand corner. At the End of ClassHow to leave the classroom (aka 2 Minute Countdown)
What to do at dismissal of class
There is a procedure at break time as well as the end of the period. You are to remain in your seat until I dismiss the class. The bell does not dismiss the class. You do not dismiss the class. The teacher dismisses the class. Thank you. Questions? You are responsible for the information. If you are unclear on anything, it is your responsibility to ask questions for clarification and understanding. |
